RESTORATION: REAPER 1902 (SCOTTISH FISHERIES MUSEUM)
Leonardo supervised, on behalf of the Scottish Fisheries Museum, the restoration of the sailing drifter Reaper, built in Scotland in 1902. A massive boat building exercise and teamwork undertaken at Rosyth Babcock shipyard by a team of boat builders from A&R Way boatbuilding.
A new douglass fir deck, new stanchions and some re-planking are between the works done during the two years of restoration. A big challenge was the replacement of the heavily built oak frames due to the size, curve and deep decay found in many structures. The boat was restored preserving the original methods and scantling, using traditional materials where appropriate. A particular attention was given to the durability of the materials used in order to ensure the long term integrity of the hull. |
